Eligibility & How NDIS Works

What is NDIS?

The National Disability Insurance Scheme (NDIS) is Australia’s government program that provides funding and support for people with permanent and significant disabilities. It aims to give participants choice and control over their care, therapy, and daily support needs.

How It Works?

  • The NDIS provides a funded plan based on your goals and needs.
  • Participants can use their plan to access services, therapies, and programs from registered providers like N Health Services.
  • Your plan is flexible, allowing you to choose services that best support your independence, health, and community participation.

Are You Eligible?

You may be eligible if you:

  • Have a permanent and significant disability affecting daily life.
  • Are under 65 years of age when applying.
  • Are an Australian citizen, permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.

How to Apply for NDIS

  1. Check eligibility: Visit the official NDIS website or contact us for guidance.
  2. Access request: Submit an Access Request Form to NDIS.
  3. Planning meeting: Work with a NDIS planner to develop your individualized plan.
  4. Start using your plan: Access services from NDIS-registered providers like N Health Services.

Our team at N Health Services can support you through every step of the process, from understanding your plan to choosing services that meet your goals.

Step-by-Step Application Process

Here’s how someone can apply to become a NDIS participant:

1. Check Your Eligibility

You may be eligible if you meet all of these:

  • You are under 65 years of age when applying.
  • You live in Australia and are either an Australian citizen, a permanent resident, or hold a Protected Special Category Visa.
  • You have a permanent impairment or disability (physical, intellectual, sensory, neurological, psychosocial, etc.) that significantly affects daily life or you have needs for early intervention.

If you’re not eligible for full NDIS support, you may still access community or mainstream supports through a partner.

To apply, you’ll need to supply evidence that demonstrates your disability (or functional impairment) and how it affects daily life. Supporting evidence can include: medical reports, assessments, letters from health professionals (GPs, allied health practitioners, specialists), and any existing documentation relevant to your condition.

If applying for a child under 9 years old, and its early intervention related, there are special provisions often via an “early childhood partner.”

You can get the application form in multiple ways:

  • Download the Access Request Form from the NDIS website, fill it out, and email or mail it with your supporting documents.
  • Call NDIS on 1800 800 110 to request a form be mailed or emailed to you.
  • Visit your nearest NDIS office (or local area coordinator / early childhood partner), they can provide and help you fill out the form or contact us for assistance.

Important:
The form must be signed. If you fill it out digitally, you must use a digital signature and sign it last. If you make changes after signing, sign again.

You can submit your completed application and supporting documents by:

  • Emailing to enquiries@ndis.gov.au
  • Posting to GPO Box 700, Canberra, ACT 2601
  • Hand-delivering to your local NDIS office / local area coordinator

If you have trouble completing or submitting the form, you can call NDIS 1800 800 110 to request assistance via a local partner. N health Services can also help you in submitting your NDIS application. Contact us for assistance.

Once your application is submitted, it will be processed. According to current guidelines, NDIS aims to provide a decision within 21 days of receiving your complete access request.

If your application is approved, you become a NDIS participant, then you can access supports (such as services from N Health Services). If more information is needed (e.g. medical evidence), NDIS may request additional documentation.
